The lampwork process
Brynn Rydell

Three years ago a friend asked if I would like to learn to make glass beads. I didn’t hesitate to take her up on her offer. Glass has always fascinated me and within a month I had carved out a little niche in my husband’s office and I started playing with molten glass in earnest.

It wasn’t long and my husband relinquished his office space and turned it over to me for my art studio.

Art Studio

Two words I never thought I’d use in a description of my life, let alone my occupation, but here I am, working with glass and creating in my “art studio.”

Living in Washing ton State has awarded me the wonderful opportunity of being able to take classes from some of the best lampworkers in the world: Michael Barley, Andrea Guarino and Corina Tettinger. They have influenced me, confused me, frustrated me, but mostly they have inspired me to take chances and make mistakes. To take those mistakes and turn them into a challenge and inspiration.

Each color of glass has its own unique personality with changing moods. The challenge is to understand the moods and find compatible relationships with other colors or relish the arguments.

Every glass creation is a fascinating journey with its own story to tell. I hope you enjoy.
